Na’aba, Nwuche lament decline in quality of leadership

One time Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Ghali  Umar Na’aba and Hon Chibudom Nwuche respectively, yesterday decried what they described as persistent decline in the quality of leadership in the country.
The duo who were delegates at the national conference and spoke at different times said the country has wasted so much time in retrogression. They urged the conference to retrieve the country from leadership crisis.

Hon Na’aba who urged the conference to do everything in its power to resuscitate the quality of leadership in the country by strengthening the institutions of governance as well as ensuring internal democracy among political parties.
The former speaker lamented that the process of electing party flag bearers was being destroyed giving rise to mediocre and those favoured by godfathers.
Hon Na’aba urged the delegates to ponder on declining quality of governance and fashion out ways to strengthen institutions of democracy in the country.

Similarly, Hon Chibudom Nwuche, his former deputy stated that Nigeria has depreciated drastically recalling with nostalgia that the country was highly rated abroad in 1979 when he travelled out.
He said corruption has become hydra-headed, wanton and perpetrated with impunity, affirming that the monster of unemployment has made youths leave the country in droves to foreign lands in search of survival.
He lamented that Nigeria’s co traveller, Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia have far left the country behind.

He advocated for a restructure of the present federal structure to allow the federating units reside at the zones saying that the present structure is laden with corruption and inefficiency because power is over concentrated at the centre.
His view is that the states were too small to be federating units warning that they are capable of being pocketed by the governors as has been seen in the present day democracy in the country.
Hon Nwuche wanted the country to evolve a system of governance where the best would lead  the country not one that discourages the people who mean well for the country.
