NAE thumbs up NASENI on innovation, engineering practices

The Nigerian Academy of Engineering (NAE) has commended the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) for raising the bar of engineering practice in Nigeria.

Describing NASENI as an “outstanding engineering agency with high level contributions,” NAE praised the body “for projecting engineering practices in Nigeria and raising the bar in terms of research and development (R&D) outputs, leading to technology innovations.”

The Nigerian Academy of Engineering is the highest engineering body in the country.

Speaking while handing over the recognition to the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive of NASENI, Engr. Prof. Mohammed Sani Haruna, President of the Academy, Engr. Alex O. Ogedegbe, described NASENI as a worthy partner and ace builder for the promotion and growth of the engineering practice in the country and also for the agency’s financial contribution to the Academy.

Located in the Presidency, NASENI is currently at the forefront of campaigns for the revitalisation of home-grown industrialisation agenda of the country while carrying out R&D works, manufacturing, reverse engineering and use of local contents for production of capital goods, machines and equipment needed for actual industrial development of the country.

Ogedegbe recalled that NASENI has carried out research and design successfully in the areas of manufacturing of first made-in-Nigeria helicopter, first Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) for agricultural purposes and security surveillance.

It had also successfully designed and manufactured first electronic Voting Solution, which has capacity to solve voting and collation challenges in the nation’s political system and other innovations.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, NASENI was the first institution of government which carried out research, design and successfully manufactured a range of Covid-19 disinfectant sprayers used in preventing spread of the disease in public places amongst several interventions in the Nigeria economy.

The NASENI boss, Prof. Haruna, while receiving the award plaque on behalf of the Agency said the recognition by the Academy was a booster to the Agency to do more. While speaking to journalists after the event, he disclosed that “the Nigeria Academy of Engineering is the highest engineering body in the country, therefore any recognition and commendation from such body are taken serious and also serves as motivation for the Agency to do more.”

The NAE event/award dinner’s wrap up was with a guest speaker who is the Group Managing Director/CEO, Niger Delta Exploration and Production Plc, Mr. Adegbite Falade on the topic – “Ownership Changes in Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Assets: Trends, Implications and Outlook”. The paper centred on the challenges of the sector with the dwindling Nigeria revenue from oil, occasioned by many emerging alternatives to crude oil.

Other recipients of NAE recognitions, aside NASENI, include Globacom telecommunications, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Airtel, Energy Commission of Nigeria, and MTN Nigeria.
