NAF gives free medical services

The Nigerian Air Force  stormed some selected villages nation-wide with medical outreach as part of its 50th anniversary, where masses were given free medical care and consultations as part of their social responsibilities.

It was Air Commodore Olufemi Olutoye, the Director of Medical Services in the Nigeria Air Force who led his team to Sauka village on the airport road and Kpaduma I and II, the communities located in the Asokoro extension, Abuja where people were treated free by the medical team.
Speaking with some journalists at Kpaduma I, Air Commodore Olutoye explained the exercise was going on simultaneously in every as its going on in every Air Force Base all over the country.

According to him, “The whole idea is for those who live around us to feel our impact. Particularly on this occasion, before now the civilians have always used our hospital and medical centers, but we feel on this occasion we should go out even beyond the contiguous communities to other communities that ordinarily wouldn’t come to us.

“Today for example we are going to be doing blood pressure checks, we are to be doing fasten blood sugar to find out those who are diabetic and be able to offer them general counseling about their health, we want to give worm expellants to children under five, particularly because we know that children under five in communities like this where there isn’t adequate sanitary conditions a lot of them would have worms, worms we know the effect that they have on children, anemia,  intestinal obstructions, abdominal pain and what have you.
“We are hoping to see a lot of pregnant women also, those who ordinarily do not have access to health care to be able to help them in their pregnancy.

Whatever it is that we find here that we can treat on the spot we will treat those that we cannot treat immediately we would ask them to see us in the hospital”.

Some members of the communities were also have their eyes treated while some were given glasses and drugs as the case may be.
Some of those who benefited from the kind gesture were full of praise for the Air Force authority since they are living inn communities without medical facilities.
