NAHCON moves to professionalise Hajj mgt

In-coming chairman of National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) Barrister Zikirullah Hassan and acting Chairman of the Commission, Barrister Abdullahi Mukthar Muhammad, has met with the vice-chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Ibrahim Garba, to discuss partnership towards the formation of a Hajj training institute.

The meeting was held to discuss prospects for the establishment of the Hajj Training Institute in partnership with Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Bayero University Kano and the University of Ummul Qura.

During the screening of Barr Zikirullah by the Senate recently one of his mandate was to establish the Hajj training institute in order to professionalize Hajj management.

In his remarks, Barrister Zikirullah said other professions like photography and event management had been professionalised and were being fully studied in universities; hence the need for establishing the institute to “weed out quacks from Hajj management.”

The meeting was attended by NAHCON’s director admin and human resources, Dr Ibrahim Sodangi, and the acting secretary of the Commission, Ahmad Maigari.
