Naija Super 8: Rivers United crash out, Akwa United go top

Last year winners of the Nigeria Premier League, Rivers United have crashed out of the Naija Super 8 following another defeat by Akwa United Monday evening at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos in the ongoing Naija Super 8 tournmanet.

It was Uche Collins solitary effort for Akwa United that condemned Rivers United to their second consecutive defeat in the pre-season tournament .

The Port Harcourt side lost by 2-1 to Lobi Stars in their opening match. The Stanley Eguma side parading their newly signed on players were uncoordinated for most part of the game.

With the victory, Akwa United with 6 points have qualify for the semi finals though they still have their last group game against Lobi Stars to play on Wednesday.

In the earlier match of the day, Lobi Stars and Yobe Stars settled for a goalless draw in their second Group B game of the 2023 Naija Super 8 tie, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Monday.

The draw took Lobi to four points after their opening day win against Rivers United.
