Naira Marley fails to meet bail condition, remains in prison

It appears there is no respite for Nigerian singer Naira Marley, who had been behind bars since last month for alleged fraud charges from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Though a Federal Hight Court, sitting in Lagos, granted him bail last week, the singer, who is still claiming his innocence is yet to leave prison because of his inability to meet certain aspects of his bail condition.

Apart from the the sum of N2million bail, the singer is also required to produce two sureties, one of whom must be a Level 10 officer in Lagos State, the only aspect of the condition he is yet to meet, because nobody of that rank wants to stand as surety for him.

Naira Marley remains the only one facing prosecution out of the four others he was actually arrested with by the anti-graft agency on allegation of internet fraud popularly known as Yahoo Yahoo.

According to EFCC, a laptop which was found with him had incriminating evidence. The singer’s management has however denied he owned the laptop.

His bail application which was presented before a court last week was granted. The singer is to provide two Level 10 officers plus N2million before he can come out of custody.

However, Naira Marley still remains behind bars as terms for his bail are yet to be met. According to rumors, no Level 10 officer wants to stand for his bail due to his criminal past record.
