NAMA shores up IGR to grow navigational services

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has begun moves to shore up its revenue base in order to effectively meet its core obligation of air navigation service provision within the Nigerian airspace to stakeholders.
The managing director of NAMA, Capt. Capt. Fola Akinkuotu who disclosed this in Lagos while receiving the report of the Revenue Mobilization Committee set up by the agency explained that the move became imperative owing to the rising commitment of the agency in the area of upgrading navigational infrastructure, enhancing air traffic management services, building staff capacity as well as other personnel costs.
He said management would carefully study the report with a view to implementing relevant aspects of it, stressing that “an improvement in the revenue profile of the agency would translate to a more robust NAMA, discharging its functions in a more efficient manner.”
He therefore enjoined to be more prudent and avoid wastages in order to make the dream realizable. It would be recalled that in the quest to improve its revenue generating capacity, the agency recently inaugurated a Revenue Mobilization Committee whose core term of reference was to extensively deliberate on the agency’s statutory revenue sources and develop strategies for more effective ways of generation and collection.
The committee which sat between February and April 2018 came up with recommendations, some of which include improvement on the frequency of stakeholder engagement especially on matters relating to service delivery; media enlightenment of customers through various platforms; provision of incentives for prompt payment by customers; improvement on the agency’s e-payment platform, including deployment of Point of Sales (POS) in all revenue payment points nationwide and maintaining constant liaison with the regulator and stakeholders in matters relating to the review of charges.
