NAMA shuts down Kaduna Airport

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) said yesterday that flights to Kaduna Airport were being temporarily halted following a fire outbreak which razed the tower and destroyed air traffic control facilities completely.
The managing director of NAMA, Mr. Ibrahim Abdulsalam who confirmed the development in Lagos said the agency had already issued a notice to airmen (NOTAM) informing both the local and international airlines of the development.
He attributed the incident to power surge adding that all the personnel on duty at the time the incident occurred were safely evacuated.
To alleviate the plight of air travellers, the managing director said he had directed the immediate deployment of the agency’s mobile tower from Abuja to Kaduna Airport to handle flights as from today (Monday).
“There is no cause for alarm as we are on top of the situation. Our mobile tower is capable of handling normal traffic as it is well equipped with necessary air traffic control console  to do that,” he Abdulsalam said.
