NAMA urges airspace managers to comply with executive order

Th e Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Managing Director, Capt. Fola Akinkuotu, has charged airspace managers in Nigeria to ensure strict compliance with the implementation of the federal government executive order issued recently by the acting president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo. Giving the charge in a keynote address at a management meeting with the airspace managers in Lagos, Akinkuotu said: “We must individually and collectively, in our operational and administrative procedures resolve to make the executive orders successful as it gives us the opportunity to correct our shortcomings, perfect the system and also set the template about what excellent service delivery should be.

‘“As my representatives on the fi eld, airspace managers must ensure that staff under their diff erent jurisdictions are conversant with the spirit and letter of the executive order to ensure seamless implementation nationwide,” he said. Akinkuotu, who was optimistic that acceleration of approvals and permit processes as contained in the executive orders would signifi cantly increase revenue, attract investment and boost economic activities in the country, noted however that there will be no room for wilful negligence of established procedures as defaulters will face appropriate sanctions. While expressing gratitude to them for their collective eff ort at ensuring safety of air travel within their various domains, Akinkuotu called for synergy among departments in the agency as well as agencies in the aviation sector. “It is only when there is unity of purpose, teamwork, harmony and co-operation at all levels that the agency can realize its cardinal vision,” he added. Akinkuotu also charged airspace managers to ensure that navigational aids in their diff erent areas of supervision are serviceable at all times. He added that the agency had planned to replace old navigational aids with modern ones in some strategic areas across the country. Commenting on the huge debt which state aerodromes owe the NAMA, Akinkuotu said the onus was on the airspace managers to engage more with such state offi cials on modalities of payment.
