NAOWA frees 13 inmates, donates items to Suleja correctional centre

The Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) Wednesday freed 13 inmates from Suleja Correctional Centre, and donated some food items and other consumables to the centre, as part of activities marking this year’s Chief of Army Staff Conference.

The freed inmates included 10 male and six females serving various jail terms in the correctional centre.

Three other inmates were given transport fare, including flight ticket for one foreign inmate, to aid their movement to their respective homes, as expect their of freedom in a couple of days.

Speaking during the donation, Presdent of NAOWA and wife of Chief of Army Staff, Hajiya Umma Kalsum Tukur Buratai, said  the gesture was parts of the activities of the organisation to mark the Chief of Army Staff Conference .

Represented by the Deputy President of NAOWA and wife of Chief of Policy and Plans, Mrs. Jemilat Adeosun, said the gesture was also to put smile on the inmates and gave them a sense of belonging.

“NAOWA President will have loved to bail more inmates , but we will do it gradually,’ Mrs. Adeosun said.

” For those of you that are being freed today, please and please what ever reason that made you a resident of this place, when you leave here turn a new leaf. We are all human and we all make mistakes, but having being here you will have learn your lessons. This pace is not a punishment centre, it is a Correctional centre, and we hope you have made some corrections.

” We also urge you to put to use the skills you have acquired here when you go out.

” For those of you that are yet to secure bail, your helpers with find you very soon. Remember that when there is life , there is hope.”

In his remark, Controller Correctional Centre, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Abdulrahman Mayaki, said NAOWA has been know historically for it’s charitable contributions across the country.

He said the visit by NAOWA executive to the Correctional Centre would further gave the inmates a sense of belonging and a testimony that people outside care about them.

“I always tell you that you shouldn’t see you coming here a end of life, ” Mayaki said. ” Many people and organisations remember you and are ready to help you,” he said.

” Having organisation like NAOWA to visit you at this festive season is a thing of joy.”

Earlier, NAOWA President inaugurated two sular boreholes and stop-and-pick shopping centre at Mambila Baracks extensions and Yar’adua Barracks in Abuja, respectively.

The organisation also donated food items to Halal Children’s Home in Lugbe, Abuja.
