Nasarawa cleric sues for peace among Nigerians

Catholic Bishop of Lafia Diocese, Nasarawa state, Most Rev Mathew Ishaya Audu, has urged Nigerians to continue to leave in peace with one another, irrespective of their religious, tribal and political affiliations.
He made the call yesterday in Lafia, at a maiden conference of the Nasarawa state youth ethnoreligious alliance with the theme: “Peace building and youths participation in governance.” The Bishop said true peace could only be founded on decent and mutual trust, and when those in power speak out their intentions with simplicity, clarity, and honesty.
He explained that the task of restoring peace to Nigeria is a formidable one in which everyone has a part to play, noting that if there is to be lasting peace in the society, there must be mutual trust and justice.
“We must all strive as individual members of the same family of God, to live a good moral life fed by such precious qualities as sacrifice, tolerance, forgiveness, and gratitude.” He also warned that before it becomes too late, definite measures must be adopted to ban strife, relieve tension and banish fears amongst the citizenry.
He, therefore, urged leaders to be determined in their endeavour by devoting their energies and resources to the task of healing the deep and bitter wounds of the past.
Speaking, state chairman of the group, Comrade Usman Abdulhakim Kwara, said the group was aiming at promoting peaceful coexistence among the citizens of the state, irrespective of religious, tribal or political affiliations.
