Nasarawa commences distribution of 4,000 deworming tablets

Nasarawa state government Saturday commenced the distribution of 4,000 deworming tablets to children who are under five across the state.

This was done to free the children  from worms and other deadly diseases.

Inaugurating the exercise in Toto local government area of the state, governor Abdullahi Sule, said vitamin A supplement would also be distributed to 600 pregnant women and children towards boosting their immunity, improving the vision and sight of the children.

 “This will also reduce morbidity in children affected by infectious diseases such as measles, thereby reducing the chances of blindness in our children. This gesture will be conducted within the period of three months,” Sule said.

Governor Sule stated further that  the gesture was also intended to enhance the quality of the healthcare services, as well as  improve the nutritional value  of children and pregnant women across the state.

The governor also informed the people of the state that his government has approved the implementation of Save One Million Lives initiative in the state, which focuses on the improvement of health for pregnant women, children under five, immunisation, nutrition, as well as treated nets.

This is in line with goals 2 (zero hunger), 3 (good health and wellbeing) and 17 (partnership) of the SDGs. He added that government would provide 61 health facilities, 51 Primary healthcare centers, one tertiary hospital, nine secondary school facilities including central store across the state, all geared towards boosting the health condition of the citizenry.

He  said government has identified four Primary Healthcare Centres in each local government area of the state for renovation and upgrading to meet global standard for the wellbeing of the people.
