Nasarawa first lady pledges better days for rural women


The wife of Nasarawa state governor, Silfat Abdullahi Sule, Tuesday, said she will continue to better the lives of women especially in the rural areas to enable them contribute their quota for the development of the state.
She stated this at the celebration of this year’s International Women’s Day held in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital.


Silifat said women deserved to be given all the necessary support to excel especially in girl child education, empowerment, among other equal opportunities.


She further said that women must be protected from all the negative elements including gender-based violence, rape among others that pull them back.
The wife of the governor also emphasized that women must begin to take their rightful position in governance and identify more ways of improving their welfare and wellbeing in society.


Earlier, the state commissioner for women affairs and social development, Halima Ahmadu Jabiru,said the state will no longer be a safe haven for the perpetrators of gender-based violence and other related offences against women and girls.
She also solicited positions for women in government for them to showcase their talents while commending governor Abdullahi Sule for putting smiles on the faces of women through empowerment.
