Nasarawa LG poll: Only PDP has submitted candidates – NASIEC

The state chairman of Nasarawa state Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), Dr. Abdullahi Modibbo, has said that only the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had submitted its list of candidates for the local government elections scheduled for March 22.

Reacting to an allegation by the PDP that the Commission was planning to smuggle the names of the candidates of the APC to give an impression that the names were submitted before the injunction restraining the Stanley Buba-led executive from parading as leaders of the party, Moddibo said the electoral body would work within the ambit of the law.

The PDP chairman said the APC in the state could not submit its list until the order was vacated and that by the next adjourned date of January 28, 2014, the date for submission, January 19, had elapsed.

A Lafia High Court on Monday restrained the state interim harmonisation committee chairman of the APC, Stanley Buba, and his executives from parading themselves as officials of the party, pending the determination of a substantive suit brought in by a chieftain of the party in the state, Hon. Omar NuNurudeen.

“We are conforming to our timetable of events and by our timetable we are expecting all the parties to submit the lists of their candidate on or before the 19th of this month, they still have the grace of today and tomorrow.”
Earlier, while addressing newsmen the state PDP, Chairman, Yunana Iliya, raised alarm alleging that NASIEC was planning to smuggle in the list of APC after the court order restraining the leadership of the APC in the state.
