Nasarawa NAPTAN decries falling education standard

Nasarawa state chapter of National Parent Teacher Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) Chairman, Umaru Ebenya, has decried the falling standard of education in the state.
Ebenya made the observation when he spoke with the state traditional council in Lafia, noted that the standard of education in the state public schools had fallen such that many secondary school leavers ccould hardly make a good sentence.
“Most primary six pupils and graduates of secondary schools in the state cannot speak English fluently, which calls for serious concern,” he said.
Ebenya said that if the traditional council did not intervene urgently, the situation could get out of control, adding that with free education policy in the state, less attention was being paid to public schools.
The chairman appealed to the traditional rulers to constitute inspectorate committees to schools within their localities as was the case in the past.
He also urged them to make it a point of duty to visit schools in their areas, saying that it would improve the standard of education.
Responding, Mustapha Akwai, the Emir of Lafia and the Chairman of the Council, assured them of total support.
Akwai urged the traditional rulers to constitute and chair the supervisory committees in their respective areas.
The Emir promised to investigate more on the issues and make a presentation to the state government for prompt action.
