Nasarawa Okada riders attack NGO secretariat, destroy property

Modibbo Haruna Buhari Charity Organisation (BCO), Abuja, an NGO secretariat in Nasarawa state, has been attacked by commercial motorcycle operators (Okada riders) in which property worth N3.7million have been destroyed.

National Chairman of Board of Trustees (BoT) of the organisation, Mr. Madibo Sulaiman, stated this yesterday while briefing newsmen at the NGO Secretariat in Masaka, Karu local government area of the state.

“As you can see by yourself on the level of destruction done to the secretariat by the Okada riders as they did not only breaks windows, doors but they also destroyed valuable items and stolen my Techno and Bontel handset, and stole my N833,000,” he said.

He noted that the attack was coming as a result of the management of Karu local government are selling reflective jacket to Okada riders at the rate of N3, 000 as a means of Identification in order to curtail criminal activities and ensure peace in the area.

“But as part of our commitment as an NGO to assist the less privileged ones, we said any Okada rider that is residing from Masaka to Auta Balefi area, we will support each of them with N500 and they will pay N2500 instead of N3000 to those selling the reflect jacket and I have so far paid for 380 jackets and some of them have been coming to appreciate my efforts.”

Also speaking, the chairman of Obo Pataki Limited, in-charge of selling the Reflective Jacket, Mr. Bashir Zaki, wondered why Okada riders wanted to kill him and his staff.

“ As you can see this documents, the management of Karu local government served security agencies with letters after the joint peace and security meeting of the area on the need for Okada riders to buy Reflective jacket at the rate of N3000.

Reacting, the DPO of Masaka Police Division said: “Usually, police authorities don’t allow us to speak with press but because of ‘go slow’ on that day, I have gave my men N700 to pick Okada to the scene of the incident to safe the secretariat and the lives of the people.”
