Nasarawa sets to implement national livestock transformation plan


The Nasarawa state government, Thursday, said it would implement the national livestock transformation plan, a project aimed at tackling farmer/herders clashes in the state.
Governor Abdullahi Sule stated this at the two-day stakeholders meeting on the implementation of National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP) and peace building efforts in the state, organised by Center for Democracy and Development in Lafia.


The governor who was represented by his special adviser on non- governmental organizations and development Partners Hajiya Munirat Abdullahi said the government was so passionate about security of the people as his administration resolved to establish the state peace building agency to support government needs in times of conflict resolution in the state.


He called on the stakeholders including security agents, traditional, religious community and other segments of the society to join hands to work out the best way to secure lives and property in the state.
Sule said government is extending hand of friendship to other states because of its peaceful nature in cementing the farmers/herders relationship in the state.
The governor charged security agencies to be more strategic and proactive on issues constituting threat to lives.


He therefore, called on the participants to pay attention and be frank on their submission to bring lasting solution to the lingering crises.


Also speaking, technical adviser, United States Institute for Peace (USIP) Dr. Chris Kwaja commended Nasarawa state government for its commitment and plans to constitute peace committee and peace building agency in the state.


He said Nasarawa state was very strategic because “it is a centre that links many states in the country. The meeting will bring peace between farmers and herders.”
Also, state coordinator of NLTP Abdullahi Musa said the meeting was aimed at bringing lasting solution to the lingering crises between farmers and herders in the state and the country at large.


On his part, the commandant Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Nasarawa state command Mahmud Fari who was represented promised to collaborate with the centre to work on the peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders in the state.
