Nasarawa varsity tasks lecturers on research, creativity

Nasarawa State University, Keffi, has charged the academic community to establish volumes of researches that will enhance standard and usefulness to the society.

Professor Fati Shuaibu of the institution’s faculty of education made the charged yesterday in its 19th lecture series at the university hall in Keffi.

Shuibu, advocated a more objective approach to students’ creative ideas and interaction to enhance motivation and help them attain their potential.

In her lecture titled: “Beyond Intelligence and Convergence: Re-thinking the Management of Potentially Creative”,  Shuibu noted that students’ characteristics were pre-requisite to their performances and that any negative disposition would be detrimental to their uniqueness as individuals.

She maintained that students’ creative ability called for total acceptance from teachers, school authority and parents, positing that educational programmes should be tailored towards exploring all means possible to encourage creativity.

“Teacher’s attitude, classroom organisation, curriculum, appreciating originality and rewarding it, are crucial in the development of imagination, curiosity and quest for novelty and inventiveness”.

Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Mohammed Akaro Mainoma, who described the title of the lecture as apt, assured that the institution would continue to encourage research and innovations that would promote academic excellence.

He congratulated the 19th inaugural lecture presenter for her commitment for academic excellence, stressing the need for different approaches for all categories of learners.

The Vice chancellor restated his commitment to continue to key into good policies and projects that have direct bearing on the lives of the students and the lecturers.
