NASFAT trains more women on small businesses

Nasru-L-lahi Fathi Society (NASFAT)  have continued to train and empower women on human rights and other small businesses.
This time, a set of twenty two women are undergoing training in tie and dye, make over, gele tying and event decorations in collaboration with Carter Center.
Speaking at the opening ceremony held at NASFAT Utako branch, Abuja, on Sunday, NASFAT dawah coordinator for women and the focal point for NASFAT/Carter Center collaboration, Alhaja Sadiat Onike-Azeez, said, the training is to empower women with different skills, make them have financial freedom and be independent.
“Also, the programme  include teaching them their fundamental human rights. To know they can work and learn. Seeking knowledge is both compulsory for Muslim male and female. Women have right to work and must be educated.
“Women and children are the most vulnerable population in the world today. They carry the burden of the world’s problem. This makes them not to be part of the nation building. When a woman is educated, she will be able to impact on her children,” she said.
Representative of Carter Center Laura Olson, said, the Carter Center have a project on promoting right of women and girls and had been working “with all persons of religious faith to help advance human rights particularly for women and girls and so since 2015 we have been working with NASFAT to that end in women empowerment and it’s been a very strong partnership that continues to grow.”

NASFAT Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the women management committee Hayiya Adewunmi Muinat Odetola, said the empowerment programme is sponsored by Carter Center, Atlanta.“Last year they empowered a number of widows in Lagos and this 2019, they have extended it to seven zones of NASFAT and FCT is one of the beneficiary zones.
“We are going to train 22 persons in three skills and at the end of the training, few people would be empowered by Carter Center but we will also go out to look for funds to empower others.
“As we continue with the training, we continued to teach about human right, community well being and generally how to live with people irrespective of their religion; and that is the message we have been carrying on while focusing on empowering women and girls.”
One of the participants, Hajiya Habeeba Muhammed, said, “The things I have learnt today, I will be able to teach one or two people who in turn will teach others. From their, the society will be a better place,” she said.
