NASFAT women protest abduction of school girls

The Women wing of the Kwara State chapter of Nasrul-lahi Al-Fathi Society of Nigeria (NASFAT) yesterday staged a peaceful protest against the abduction of over 200 female students of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State.
The women, led by their leader, Hajiya Ummuhani Abdulrahaman, took the peaceful protest to the Kwara state Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, at the Government House, Ilorin.

They said the activities of insurgents, particularly the bomb blast at Nyanya, Abuja and the abduction of the female students call for concern by all stakeholders in the country, irrespective of religious and political differences.
Abdulrahaman, who presented a letter of protest to the governor, for transmission to President Goodluck Jonathan, said, “Our hearts are bleeding. We are mothers. We know what it takes to lose a pregnancy talkless of a child. We want these children to be recovered because they are our futures. They are what we depend on as mothers.”

The NASFAT women leader said as mothers the women felt the agonies of the mothers of the abduction girls, adding that the activities of the insurgents have gone beyond religious affiliations.
She said that people of all religious faiths must come together to tackle the slaugh of insurgents, especially the violence against women in different forms.

In his response, the governor commended the women for been part of the vanguard to tackle the activities of insurgents in the country.
Ahmed described the insurgents’ activities as a test of Nigerians’ faith in the country, adding that everybody must be security conscious.
“The success of the current pursuit of peace by security agencies will require every hand to be on deck. Information is very important. We must see ourselves as each other’s keepers to live in peace”, he said.
The governor promised to deliver the message of the women to President Jonathan with an expectation that the presidency will give Nigerians confidence that the prevailing security challenges would be brought under control.
