NASS leadership: We’ll support the president –Kofa

The member representing Kiru/Bebeji constituency in the House of Representatives, Alhaji Abdulmumuni Jibrin Kofa, has said legislators elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) would put heads together to support President Muhammadu Buhari to decide those that would lead the national assembly.

Speaking to newsmen in Kano on Thursday, Kofa said the president’s victory in last Saturday’s polls had demonstrated the resolve of Nigerians to chart a new course for a responsive and responsible leadership.

According to him, APC legislators will no longer be a cog in the wheel of progress as far as the issue of leadership is concerned.

He said: “This time around, we are not going to make the mistake of being carelessly used as cannon-fodders in bringing unnecessary confusion at the National Assembly. I too, I can admit have made mistake and I am never going to repeat the same mistake. We want him to succeed, since he has the good intention to make Nigeria great.

“This is a man that is always willing to fight the apologists of brigandage and theft using the instrument of fighting graft to call them to order. We at the level of our party are going to set up a committee to organise how to support the president in the task of deciding who the leaders will be in the present set up. For the president to succeed there is the need for a purge at the top echelon of the National Assembly.

“We all know that the president is fully pre-occupied with the business of building more infrastructure for millions of Nigerians to benefit. The issue of budget is one area of high consideration which all the newly APC legislators must work towards actualising. We will no longer dance to the whims and caprices of a cabal seeking to put his good policies on hold.”

On the governorship and state assembly elections, Kofa said predicted a landslide victory for Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in Kano.

He said with all the 24 legislative seats in Kano which were won by the APC, the new legislators would work towards a landslide victory for the governor.
