NASS: Oshiomhole, Ganduje may fight over choice of House Leader

Another fresh crisis is currently brewing in the ruling All progressive congress (APC) over alleged moves by the party’s national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to impose Aminu Sulaiman as against Ado Doguwa as the leader of the House of Representatives.

Sulaiman representing Fagge federal constituency of Kano state was chairman of House committee on Tertiary Education in the 8th Assembly.

Blueprint gathered on Sunday in Abuja that some members of the APC’s national working committee (NWC) are opposed to Oshiomhole’s decision to support Sulaiman, third termer in the House, who was Kano state secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

The source said the NWC had settled for Doguwa based on his pedigree as a fifth termer, a staunch supporter of go ernor Umar Ganduje and that of speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, who served as the Chief Whip of the House of Representatives in the 8th Assembly.

Blueprint learnt further that governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state is already warming up for a showdown with his nation chairman over the choice of Sulaiman as the House Leader.

It was gathered that Ganduje would lead about 19 of the 24 House of Representatives members from Kano state in support of Doguwa to the National Secretariat of the party on Monday to register his disaffection to Oshiomhole’s choice.

The source said: “The chairman is trying to imposing Sulaiman on the House simply because they worked together before in the NLC as comrades. There is a difference between the NLC and party politics. This position was zoned to Kano and the stakeholders in Kano have made up their minds on who they want to occupy the position. Doguwa is not new to the Gbajabiamila camp. They were together in the struggle in 2015 and in 2019. He has paid his dues. He remains the most experienced lawmaker best suited for the job as far as we are concerned.”
