NASS to legislate on NCAT’s ACT –Rep

The House of Representative will facilitate amendment of Act establishing the famous Nigerian College Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria with to upgrade to full pledge tertiary institution in the aviation sector.

The chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Aviation,  Nnolim Nnanji, has said in an interview with journalists in Zaria when he led members of the committee on an oversight to the college Friday.

He said the existing Act that established the institution was enacted in 1962; hence the need to amend it in order to upgrade to become Tertiary Institution in such it would enjoy support from Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) like other tertiary institutions in the country.

Speaking on the expansion of the college’s runaway, he said it would be expanded from 1.8 kilometres to 2.4 kilometres, adding that the committee would everything to recover the college’s encroached land to ensure that the runaway was expanded.

Earlier, in his presentation, the rector, Capt. Abdulsalami Mohammed, told the committee that the institution was facing problems of inadequate budgetary allocation (envelope system), shortfall in federal government capital budgetary releases, and inadequate required specialised manpower.

Mohammed said other problems that were prostrating the college were “inadequate equipment and facilities for commencement of advance aviation training due to budgetary restrictions, limited training capacity due to insufficient facilities like hostel accommodation and classrooms and encroachment of its land by neighbouring communities.”
