National Anti-corruption marathon seeks synergy with Blueprint

A group, National Anti-Corruption Marathon on Tuesday reiterated its commitment to use marathon to create awareness on the danger of corruption in the society.

After successfully organising the first edition of the marathon, the group is poised as part of activities to mark this year United Nations anti-corruption day host yet another edition of the yearly event.

The national coordinator of the group, Jacob Onu who made this declaration during a courtesy visit to the corporate headquarters of the Blueprint newspapers in Abuja added that the fight against corruption is not to be left to government alone.

According to Onu, the group intends to use the image and popularity of the marathon races to bring together all segments of the country’s population in support of President Buhari’s fight against corruption in the country.

He said, “The marathon is an annual event which is aimed at eulogizing the effort of Nigeria government and all the anti-corruption agencies in the country in its anti-corruption crusade in our society.

“I commend the vision and drive of President Buhari  in eradicating corruption through his various policies on anti-corruption. I want to reiterate that the fight is not to be left to government alone. Government responsibility is to create enabling environment, enforce law and regulations.”

The group thereafter seeks Blueprint partnership and support towards the successful hosting of the second edition of the program which is slated for December.

Responding, the Managing editor of the medium, Mr Clement Oluwole hailed the group decision to use sport as weapon to fight corruption in the society.

Oluwole however advocated that a special court should be set up by the federal government in order to fight corruption effectively like they have it in China.

According to him, corruption has been running its own marathon in the country since 1959, advising that the group must be ready to catch up with it and then conquer it for the betterment of the populace.

He said, “It is good to use marathon as a metaphor to fight the menace because all hands must be on decks to defeat it.
