One of the delegates to the National Conference, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Hamma Misau rtd, has died.
Misau, who was representing the association of retired police officers at the conference, yesterday died around 7pm, after a brief illness at the National Hospital, in Abuja.
His remains have been transported to Bauchi state for burial, according to Muslim rites.
While alive, he had raised concerns about the spate of insecurity in the country at various fora.
He was described as a nationalist who was committed to unity and progress of Nigeria throughout his years of service and in retirement.
Speaking with Blueprint in a telephone interview, one of the children of the deceased, also a retired policeman and politician, Isa Hamma Misau, described his father as a straightforward and honest person, who dedicated his entire live to service of Nigeria.
He said: “My father was a straightforward and honest person. He was frank and forthright and fearless and never afraid to speak the truth at any time.
“He served Nigeria as a police officer for 34 years in various capacities and retired as Assistant Inspector General of Police. ”
He said he would miss the father’s wise counsel, which he said had guided him since childhood.
