National Confab, illegal – Sen. Aisha

Senator Jumai Aisha Alhassan has said that the ongoing national conference is an illegal exercise occasioned by the president and its outcome will only be for the consumption of the same president.

The APC senator stated this in an interactive session with journalists in her private residence in Jalingo. She said it is only elected representatives that have the powers to amend anything in the constitution of the country.

She explained further that giving the situation under which the crop of people at the national conference was selected leaves a lot to be desired and the outcome of whatever they d do will be subject to scrutiny by the national assembly.

The federal law maker said President Goodluck Jonathan only gathered some people around the country to come and advise him on some issues bothering on the country, and he is free to do that but after their deliberations if the president wants the outcome to stand the test of time, he will still send to it to the National Assembly just like any bill.

Explaining a point on the credibility of the method through which the national conference delegates were arrived at, the legislator said up to the moment she was talking to the media she did not know the criteria even as an elected representative of the people.

Reacting to a question on the federal road contracts given in her senatorial district, she said the contracts were given to incompetent contractors; one is already revoked and the contractor is in court with the federal ministry of works.
She however gave assurance that the correct thing will be done and the roads will  be completed with time.
