NAWOJ decries rising crime rate, tasks govt on insecurity

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has raised the alarm over the rising rate of crime across the country, especially kidnapping and rape of minors, and called on government ta all levels to take urgent steps to stem the tide.
NAWOJ in a communique issued at end of the zonal executive council meeting, Saturday in Lafia, Nasarawa state, lamented the high rate of rape of minors and the  menace of child labour.

The association tasked the federal government to prevail on states yet to adopt the Child Rights Act (CRA) to adopt and implement the Act to help curb crimes against women and children.
The meeting commended President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing more women into his cabinet even as they appealed  for more opportunities to be given women in line with 35 per cent affirmative action.

On the recently approved N30,000 minimum wage, which is yet to be implemented, NAWOJ urged the federal government to speed up the implementation process in order to alleviate the plight of civil servants.
The meeting also commended the Nasarawa state governor Abdullahi Sule for being media-friendly and made case for inclusion of women in his cabinet as well as in other key appointments in the state.
