NAWOJ demands security for journalists in Nigeria

The National Secretary of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Ladi Bala has called on governments at all levels to provide adequate security for all the working journalists in the country.

Ladi Bala made the call Tuesday in Dutse, Jigawa state capital while addressing members of the NAWOJ in a two day workshop organized by the Jigawa state chapter.

The National Secretary said adequate security of working journalsits is paramount considering the importance attached to their profession.

She also appealed to the Jigawa state government to sponsor some female journalisis from the state for foreign training bill to hold in Luanda the capital city of Burundi.

According to her that journalists in the country need to be empowered. “Without economic power, women journalist in the country cannot go anywhere.”

She urged women journalists in Jigawa state to come out on stage and compite favourably in the field with their counter part men.

Among the women journalists that graced the occasion were Hajiya Zainab Rabo, the Special Adviser to the national president of the NUJ, the zonal Vice President north west, Hajiya Halima Musa.
