The Ilorin branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has advised members to engage in regular physical fitness exercise to guard against cases of sudden deaths.

Chairman of the branch, Barrister Mobolaji Ojibara, gave the advice at the weekend while speaking with journalists shortly after a walk to mark the association’s 2014 Law Week.

He said cases of sudden collapse and eventual death was becoming rampart not only amongst lawyers, but many other professionals “because they get carried away while defending other people’s rights.”

He said the Walk which was also observed by professionals from the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) was organised by the NBA to raise awareness and encourage regular exercise.

He said: “These days you see people not only in the NBA, is happening elsewhere, they just collapse and die while working in the office because they are carried away and tend to forget about their health.”

According to him, the fitness exercise will be a regular one to keep members mentally and physically fit to carry out their professional calling.
