NBC: FG urged to probe ICPC’s claim

The federal government has been urged to probe the recent public outrage over the press release issued by the ICPC which contained inaccurate references to the commission’s alleged investigation into the alleged misapplication of N2.5 billion by the National Broadcasting Commission.
A statement from the Competent Governance for Accountability and Civic Trust, a non-governmental organisation,  expressed concern about the alleged reliance on the unverified contents of a petition to issue a press release instead of documented records and statements contained during ICPC investigations.

The statement which was issued by Mr Godwin Erhariene decried the existence of a “matrimonial cabal” within the ICPC that uses unverified petitions from faceless persons to threaten unsuspecting individuals and organisations while blackmailing them, adding that “The errors in the ICPC press release were so ridiculous and misinformed that the ICPC has been unable to clarify the situation and set records straight because it confirmed that indeed no reference was made to investigations into the matter before the disastrous press release was issued.”
Mr Erharire emphasized that as a corruption fighting agency of the federal government the ICPC must be above board and administered by upright, disciplined and patriotic Nigerians who will not impose their selfish interest òn the operations of the agency.

The NGO appealed for quick inauguration of the new board members of ICPC in order to check the drift of the agency from its mission and vision which was not in the interest of the Buhari administration’s war against corruption.
