NBC resolves Gombe, Yobe boundary disput

After long boundary dispute between Gombe and Yobe, the governments of both states have peacefully demarcated their boundaries, following a joint meeting of its officials with the National Boundary Commission (NBC).
A communiqué signed after the meeting by the Deputy Governors of states, Charles Iliya and Abubakar Aliyu, respectively held at New Banquet hall Government House, Gombe, stated that “the entire Gombe,Yobe interstate boundary is now conclusively defined.” The Yobe state deputy governor was represented by Alhaji Baba Ali Muhammad, Permanent Secretary, Political Affairs.
The statement also reads, “That the two state governments, border local government areas and the respective traditional authorities have committed themselves to peaceful coexistence and relationship amongst the border communities of the two states.” They urged the federal government to ensure the physical demarcation of the boundary on ground latest by the first quarter of 2019.
Earlier, during the opening ceremony, Gombe state Deputy governor, Charles Iliya, said the meeting was in furtherance of the efforts of the resolutions reached during its meeting in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital in January 2018.
He urged participants at the meeting to discuss the issues passionately so that the good relationship existing between the two states will be cemented.

Mohammed Bose Ahmad in his remarks, commended the commitment of the two states and the traditional authorities and local governments that have resulted in the impressive accomplishment recorded.
Gombe state shares a common boundary with Yobe state on its northern flanks, which has been in dispute in recent times.
