The acting director-general of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Engr. Benedict Adeyileka has applauded the federal government for support to the aviation industry during the recently concluded United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Category I re-assessment of Nigeria.
In a press statement issued in Lagos, Adeyileka also expressed appreciation to the supervising minister of aviation, Dr. Samuel Ortom, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (INAMA), Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET), Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), ground handling firms, airlines and other stakeholders in the aviation industry that provided various degrees of support towards the successful completion of the audit.
While commending the management and staff of NCAA for hard work, conscientiousness and tenacity of purpose during the internal pre-audit, Adeyileka also lauded the media for its “wave of thoughtful and responsible reports…during the recertification” and called for “sustained encouraging post-audit reports.”
The acting director general said he was satisfied with the entire audit and the exemplary performance of the regulatory authority saying he was confident FAA report would be favourable
He said the exercise was aimed at looking into “our books and operations to ensure the high standard parameters that gave us CAT 1 are still subsisting.”
The acting director general assured that with all the developments in the industry “we are once again stepping up safety procedures to entrench a seamless, safe, smooth and secured air transport industry.”
During the exercise, the four man team used the current International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) checklists and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) guidance material during the re-assessment.
The eight critical elements are primary aviation legislation, specific operating regulations, state civil aviation system and safety oversight functions, and technical personnel qualification and training. The others are technical guidance tools, licensing and certification obligations, licensing and certification obligations, surveillance obligations and resolution of safety concerns
