The executive secretary, Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Rev. Yakubu Pam, has urged Nigerian Christians to help re-build the country instead of tearing it apart.
According to a press statement issued by a principal executive officer 1, Mary Gana, the NCPC boss made the call recently while addressing pilgrims at Tabar Hotel in Nazareth, Israel.
It indicated that the NCPC boss said the Nigerian pilgrims were in the Holy Land to pray for the peace of the giant African country.
Pam, who was represented by the commission’s director of planning, research and programme development, Barrister Sonny Ebiyaibo, said the theme of this year’s pilgrimage exercise was “Pilgrimage, Peace for National Development.”
He said the theme was borne out of the realisation that “right now Nigeria is faced with a lot of challenges.”
“Nigeria is presently in turmoil over serious security breaches and this calls for concerns and prayers because without peace we cannot have development.
“This year’s pilgrimage is special in one particular way – this is the first time the Commission is organising pilgrimage to Israel and Jordan at the same time. Recall that last year’s pilgrimage to Jordan was conducted for the first time, but today we have a double destination,” he said.
Also speaking, the executive secretary of the Enugu state Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mr. Nestor Ezeme, said “this year’s pilgrimage has been exciting and interesting.”
