NCPC boss tasks air carriers, ground handlers on effective service delivery

Ahead of this year’s Christian pilgrimage exercise, the executive secretary, Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Rev. Uja Tor Uja, has urged air carriers and ground handlers to build a bond of unity with the commission for effective delivery.

Uja gave the charge Thursday in Abuja during the second phase of bid opening for air carriers and ground handlers.

He said once the service providers worked in oneness with the commission, they “will be able to achieve set goals,” adding that “it should be a development position to promote the health and progress of each other.”

“It is a demonstration of fairness and character, we want anybody who is qualified to fit into the project and anybody who goes, successfully, through the process should also show fairness by services expected for the comfort of Nigerians who will be embarking on the 2019 Pilgrimage,” he said.

He urged the service providers to ensure that they accorded pilgrims the respect they deserved, stressing, “I want you to see people as people and not as objects of money or instrument on which we just stand to gain. I want to see a commitment from you and be fair to pilgrims.”

The NCPC boss said he wished to “see all ground handlers doing well; it is inappropriate if we give one ground handler 7, 000 pilgrims and give another 200, it is inappropriate, improper and unfair; this shouldn’t be, it is good for everybody participating to participate appropriately.”

According to Uja, “It is the commission’s dreams to upgrade pilgrimage to the heights that allow everybody who embarks on pilgrimage not to only feel special, but to become a proper instrument for change in the society.”

He congratulated all the service providers for scaling through the first phase of biding exercise.

In his remarks, an observer from Transparency Action Perfect, Mr. Richard Abechi, commended the executive secretary for “a job well done,” and for “abiding by the Public Procurement Act,” noting that the process was “well-organised and transparent.”

Also, in their separate remarks, the ground handlers thanked the commission for the opportunity and expressed their willingness to always work with the commission’s set goals to ensure effective implementation and excellent service delivery to all pilgrims before, during and after each pilgrimage exercise.
