NDE trains 100 unemployed youth, women on techno-cultural craft in Nasarawa

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Nasarawa state has commenced the training of 100 unemployed youth and women on Techno Cultural Craft and  Quick- Fix in Nasarawa state.

State Coordinator of NDE, Mr. Chris Bamsida, made this known on Wednesday, during a combined orientation ceremony for the selected trainees of Techno Cultural Craft training scheme (Tech Craft) and quick- fix training in Lafia.

He said the scheme was to enable the youths to quickly acquire functional skills to earn an honest living, as well as enable them become self reliant and contribute their quota to the development of the state.

He explained that 50 each were selected for the training scheme scheduled to last for four weeks, while the tech craft scheme will last for three months respectively.

The three tech craft skills include weaving, blacksmithing and artisanal aluminium craft. While for the quick fix, five easily acquired skills will include cosmetology, barbing, confectionary make-up art and interior decoration.

“This will produce a new generation of youth that takes pride in practising indigenous skills. And will also provide gainful employment to the unemployed youth and women especially in rural and sub-urban area.

“While the quick fix training is aimed at inculcating marketable skills within a short period, the techno cultural craft training scheme (tech craft) is a new scheme of NDE that connotes talent,tradition and technology,” he said.

The state coordinator disclosed that 3700 trainees were recruited into both schemes and are currently undergoing training nationwide.

He urged the participants to exhibit high level of commitment, hard work, honesty and discipline for successful apprenticeship.

Bamsida thanked Gov. Abdullahi Sule for creating an enabling environment for the directorate to realise its vision of “jobs for all” in the state/just as he appreciated the Director – General, NDE Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo for his numerous initiatives towards employment generation, poverty reduction and wealth creation across the nation.

Responding, Monica John, a beneficiary, who spoke on behalf of others thanked NDE for the gesture and pledged their commitment to take the training serious.
