The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Tuesday, commenced its Basic Business Training (BBT) of school leavers and artisans in various businesses in Plateau state.
The Director General of NDE, Malam Abubakar N. Fikpo, while declaring open the training under the Directorate’s Small Scale Enterprises Development Scheme, said it was aimed at achieving the desired economic prosperity through small businesses in the country.
Represented by the Plateau State Coordinator, Mrs. Asabe Lassa, the DG said impacting the skills of business management will increase the chances of reducing business failures.
“Therefore, the role of the local barber, shoe shiner, hair dresser and similar players in the economy cannot be disregarded,” Fikpo said.
He added that at the end of the training, some percentage of the participants would also be provided with starter packs.
DG Fikpo said the Directorate was simultaneously making the first phase of the training in 18 states.
The NDE’s head of SSED, Mrs. Chikodi Ike, said the directorate is primarily training Nigerians so as to reduce unemployment and poverty.
Represented by Mrs. Atinuke Afolabe, Mrs. Ike said the BBT training captured
costing of products/services, cash management, record keeping amongst others.
Ms. Sandra Anikpe, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, appreciated the NDE saying: I specifically, the NDE and the facilitators for not only training us, but for also mentoring us.”
