Dozens of universities and polytechnics students in Plateau state were weekend trained on goat production by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).
The training, according to the scheme, was meant to make the students self-reliant, create wealth and jobs in the various communities.
The 50 participants drawn from various institutions were expected to be trained under six months after which they become self-reliant.
Rural Employment Promotion Officer of the scheme, Mrs Ane Eyo Ita, said the training was geared at inculcating the economic viability of livestock production in the students.
“The trading is an economically viable venture and that is why this department came up with this novel ideas to train participants on goat production, because it has a lot of employment potentials – from production of meat to milk even up to the waste.
“I want to urge the participants to take this training seriously so that they can become self-reliant and even become employers of labour,” she said.
The Plateau state coordibator of NDE, Ibrahim Ardo Abdulazeez, said after one week of theoretical training, said the training would continue up to about six months where the participants would be given practical aspect of the goat production.
