NDLEA arrests 249 suspects, seize over 400 hard drugs in Anambra

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agents (NDLEA) on Tuesday said it arrested 249 suspected illicit drug peddlers as well as seized 426.5988kg of drugs in some parts of Anambra state in 2019.

The NDLEA, Anambra state commander, Mr Misbahu Idris, who disclosed this in a press statement issued by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Charles Odigie, added that the courts convicted 37 of such suspects while 124 cases were still pending in the Federal High Court, Awka and the court of appeal, Enugu.

According to him, a breakdown of the seized drugs were 356.9927kg of Cannabis sativa, Cocaine (0.00223 kg), Heroine0.063 kg and Crystalline meth69.0308 kg.

He warned people still engaged in illicit drug activities to desists or leave the state as anyone caught would face the wrath of law.

The command equally commended the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano, whose administration he said were in support of the agency to ensure drug free Anambra.
