NDLEA arrests 91 suspects, prosecutes 29 in kwara

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), kwara state command Wednesday said it has successfully prosecuted 29 persons in five different cases out of the 91 suspects arrested for drugs related offences between July 2018 and June 2019.

The command, during the period under review also recorded a total drug seizure of 4,290.471 kilograms of cannabis Sativa and other drugs.

Briefing journalists in Ilorin as part of activities to commemorate the 2019 International Day against Drug abuse, the command’s commander, Barrister Dandi Emmanuel said out of the 91 persons arrested, 15 persons were counselled against the use of drug while five drug dependants’ persons were successfully rehabilitated and re-united with their family.

Giving a breakdown of the major breakthrough recorded, Emmanuel said out of the 91 persons arrested 77 were male while 14 were female.

On the drug seizure, the NDLEA boss said a total of 4,213.45 kilograms of cannabis were seized and 76.825 kilograms of other drugs with tramal being the largest seizure among other drugs recorded.   

Assistant Director, legal services and prosecution, Barrister Muinat Adeleye said 10 to 15 cases were still pending while 27 out of the 91 suspects arrested were released.

She lamented that the command apart from being underfunded was also under staff saying there were only 81 staff n the whole of the command whch also has seven areas commands wt holy one operational vehicle.
