NDLEA detect 11.5kg cannabis in costmetics

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have detected 11.5 kilogrammes of dried weed suspected to be cannabis inside a container of cosmetics at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
This was contained in a statement signed by NDLEA’s Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju and made available to journalists in Lagos.

According to the statement, the discovery was made at the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) warehouse during screening of goods bound for a KLM flight to Suriname.

The statement said that the suspect who reportedly brought the consignment for shipment to Suriname is an Aba-based electronics trader and some of the soap containers were found to have been replaced with dried weed that tested positive for cannabis.
According to the statement, the suspected smuggler of the drugs which weighed 11.5kg, claimed to have been introduced to drug smuggling by a friend who told him he could earn as much as 5,000 dollars, when his business was no longer flourishing.
The statement further disclosed that the Chairman of NDLEA, Mr. Ahmadu Giade while commending the officers for detecting the drugs said, “This arrest and seizure is commendable. I urge members of the public to avoid drug trafficking and report suspected drug traffickers to the agency.”

He said that NDLEA would take necessary measures to prevent drug traffickers from using this country as their originating base for moving drugs, adding that the suspect would soon be charged to court.
