NEEDS c’ttee vows to reposition poly education

Members of the NEEDS assessment committee for polytechnics have vowed to reposition that level of education, to ensure that it competes favourably with its peers the world over.
A chairperson of the Presidential Committee on Needs Assessment of Nigerian Public Polytechnics, Mrs F.Y. Ahmed, made the  disclosure yesterday at the training of team members for the proposed NEEDs Assessment tour of the states.
She said that the inauguration of the committee was a clear demonstration of government’s commitment to education as a fundamental tool to all developmental objectives of the nation.
She said: “This laudable action is intended to identify the needs and challenges facing the polytechnic education in Nigeria, as producers of skilled and semi skilled technical and professional manpower for the overall development of the country’’.
The committee’s terms of reference include; identifying known and unknown needs and challenges of polytechnics to enable government take action in addressing infrastructural challenges facing them.
The 12-member committee, which was inaugurated by October last year, is made up of representatives from the National assembly, NBTE, FME, TETFUND, ASUP, office of the SSGF, and the organised private sector.
