NEMA distributes relief material to flood victims in Sokoto

Thousands of victims affected by windstorm/flood disaster received relief support through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) during the weekend.

A statement by Aliyu Mohammed, information officer NEMA operations office Sokoto, said the distribution of relief materials was conducted in Silame Local Government Area by the officials of the agency in the presence and the state government officials.

The statement said that NEMA Head of Operations Sokoto, Dr. Kofo Soleyes who was represented by the Head of Unit, Relief and Rehabilitation, Usman AbdulAziz stated that the support is expected to ameliorate the plight of the affected victims and necessary measures will be put in place for a hitch free exercise.

The relief items distributed, according to the statement, include: 200 bags each of rice, maize and beans, 40 kegs of vegetable oil, 200 bags of cement, 200 packets of zinc nails, 100 bags of 3 inches nails, 600 pieces of ceiling board, 200 bundles of roofing sheets, others are 400 pieces each of foam mattresses, blankets and nylon mats.

Receiving the good on behalf of the victims for onward distribution, Hon. Mani Maishinko, member house of representative assured the agency of transparent exercise during the distribution.

Mal. Hantsi Idris, Ibrahim Haruna and Alu Katami who were among the affected victims commended the federal government for the timely intervention and its earlier promise during the assessment exercise
