NEPC trains 80 Nasarawa sugarcane farmers

The Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has trained 80 sugarcane farmers in Nasarawa state to boost production in the state.

State trade promotion advisor, smart office, Lafia, Mrs. Amina Abdullahi Tumba, disclosed this, Wednesday in Lafia, while declaring open the one-day training workshop.

She said the move was part of the federal government’s efforts to promote non-oil export, as well as encourage sugarcane farmers on best practices to export the product to the global market.

She explained that the country has over the years depended on oil for its economic growth which has lost its pride, hence the need for alternative solution.

The one day event was tagged “Adopting good agricultural practices on sugarcane value chain addition for export.”

Mrs. Tumba pointed out that in line with this strategic direction, Lafia smart office is building the capacity of sugarcane farmers on modern agricultural practice and sustainability.

On his part, the national president, National Sugarcane Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (NASPPMAN), Col.  Abdulmumini Aminu (rtd) thanked NEPC for organising the workshop.
