NERC renews Ibom Power’s 685MW generation license for 10 years

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), has renewed for 10years, the on-grid electricity generation license for Akwa Ibom State owned Ibom Power Company Limited, to increase its capacity from 191 megawatts to 685 megawatts.

The 191MW gas fired power generating plant located in Ibekwe, Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, which was incorporated on15th January 2001, is one of the first independent power plants in the country.

Announcing the development, the Managing Director of Ibom Power Company Limited, Engr. Meyen Etukudo, who received the license from NERC on behalf of the company, said the new license which would increase IPP generation capacity from 191MW to 685MW, will expired in May 2028.

 Etukudo said: “Ibom power applied for the amendment of its generation license on September 3rd 2015, to increase the generation capacity of its power plant from 191MW to 685MW.

“NERC granted the renewal licence No: NERC/LC/041 to Ibom Power Company limited, which is valid for another term of 10 years to expire in May 2028.”
