NERDC plans confab on education, national research agenda

Nigeria Education Research and Development Council (NERDC) has announced plans to host an international conference on Education and Research Agenda to promote public policy formulations based on research and development efforts within the nation’s education system.
Its executive secretary, Prof. Godswill Obioma, disclosed this recently in Abuja during a chat with newsmen.
According to him, “there is the urgent need to come up with a National Research Agenda to enable NERDC to address research-based missing links to educational development issues in the nation.”
Blueprint reports that the Conference, slated for April, this year, is expected to tackle the issue of visibility of the NERDC statutory responsibility for educational research and development, share innovative ideas and global best practices, develop a sustainable education research agenda for Nigeria, amongst others.
Earlier, in his address, chairman of the board, Dr. Stephen Dike, promised that the board would “leverage on all resources available and employ extant technology to strengthen and reposition NERDC to better achieve its statutory mandates, particularly in the promotion of educational research.”
He gave the assurance that the agency would develop strategies and initiatives that would transform the NERDC for greater performance and visibility, and to fulfill its mandates for global competitiveness, promotion of credible and empirical researches in education, amongst others.
