NESREA- We’ll fire environmental consultants for incompetence

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has stated it’s resolve to sack incompetent environmental consultants  engaged in professional misconduct or degrading environmental laws.

The Director- General/Chief Executive of NESREA, Prof Aliyu Jauro stated this in Abuja at the 4th induction course for 2019 accredited environmental consultants, organised by the agency.

He noted that NESREA being an agency of the federal ministry of environment has 33 environmental regulations that deals with waste management, adding that the agency would fully implement the regulations in a bid to resolve problems associated with poor waste management.

He said, “We have different types of waste such as e-waste, medical waste, solid and liquid waste but our regulations in the area of medical waste will soon be ready”.

Jauro maintained that NESREA is collaborating with similar agencies on sound environmental management since its regulation covers issues on  desertification and flooding.

While assuring of addressing rampant desertification caused by incessant felling of trees, he vowed to sanction developers in the housing and construction sector building houses on waterways.

He lamented that building on waterways  and dumping of refuse on the drainages were part of the major problems that contributed to flooding in the country.
