Netherlands partners Nigerians on horticulture development

The Kingdom of Netherlands is committed to the development of horticulture in Nigeria, Communication Officer HortNigeria, Feyikemi Adurogbangba, has said.

Making this disclosure in his welcome address during the first annual workshop of the organisation in Kano recently, Adurogbangba said Netherlands is involved in the development of horticulture in some states of the country.

He stated that the Dutch-funded HortNigeria programme was implemented through the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) and its consortium partners, East-West Seed Knowledge Transfer (EWS-KT), Wageningen University and Research (WUR), and KIT Royal Tropical Institute, participants at the two-day event in state.

TProgramme Director HortNigeria, Muhammed Salasi Idris, told newsmen that the programme was funded by the Dutch government and will last for four years, beginning from 2021.

He said its objective is to increase the productivity and income of small-holder farmers in Kano, Kaduna, Oyo and Ogun states.

The workshop was attended by representatives of the Federal Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development (FMARD), Embassy of the Kingdome of the Netherlands (EKN), National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT), National Tomato Growers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (NATPAN), Nigeria Agri Business Group (NABG), Netherlands African Business Council (NABC), private sector partners and other financial institutions.
