New Agaie emir: I won’t interfere, says Aliyu

Governor of Niger state, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, has promised not to interfere with the selection process of the new Emir of Agaie, saying that he would respect the wish of the people.
The governor made this position known at the weekend in Kontagora at a turbaning ceremony.
The former emir, Alhaji Kudu Abubakar (III), died at the age of 57, leaving the stool of the emirate vacant.

While Aliyu awaits the decision of the kingmakers, he has called on the people to choose wisely, adding that what the people needed was a leader that would encourage development and “insist on peaceful coexistence through provision of security and advance collective aspirations of the people.”
Aliyu also told the people of Zone C, whose turn it is to present the next governor, to eschew ethno-religious politics, stressing that they should harness their social political multiplicity towards presenting a credible candidate for governorship in 2015.

He said: “It is the turn of Zone C based on the rotation policy of the PDP in Niger. It is, therefore, the responsibility of the people to choose candidate based on proven integrity to provide the state with dividend of democracy. If anybody wants to contest, they should be allowed to come then at the end, we choose the best candidate.”

In his remarks, the Sarkin Sudan Kontagora, Alhaji Saidu Namaska, urged celebrants and the elite to work together to ensure peaceful elections anchored on brotherhood and devoid of ethno-tribal sentiments.
Those turbaned included Alhaji Mu,’Azu Mohammed Bawa (Sarkin Yakin Kontagora), Alhaji Ibrahim Wali (Garkuwan Kontagora), Dr. Joshua Nuhu Bawa (Kauran Kontagora) and Hon. Sa,’adatu Kolo (Sagin Nupe Kontagora)
