The new Nasarawa state Commissioner of Police, Sani Mohammed, has promised to adopt a new policy to decongest the ever-busy Karu – Mararaba traffic.

Mohammed disclosed this in a chat with newsmen in Lafia, the state capital, saying that the new policy would be carried out using civility and social service-oriented measures that would carry the society along.

He said the police would engage relevant stakeholders to educate their communities on the need the workability and otherwise of the new policy to fast track the return of sanity in the area which was the biggest satellite settlement in the outskirts of Abuja.

He added that his officers would intensity patrol and give the needed attention to those who desired their services as at when due.

He said: “We will adopt new measures that will be carried out with a lot of civility as the new global trend of policing. The society is gradually exiting from crime fighting to social services delivery that will see the force as part of the community.”

Mohammed said the Mararaba axis would be part of his immediate priority considering the proximity to the nation’s capital city, adding that security tips had shown that the area “serves as a fertile hide out to men of the underworld.”

He added that the police would re-enforce 24 hours patrol as a first step measure to clampdown on criminals and their hide-outs and protect lives and property of the citizenry.
He then appealed to the public to close ranks with the police to ensure a crime-free society that would build people’s confidence on the existing security apparatus in the state, while urging them to carry out their lawful duties without fear of intimidation.
