New party backs govs, FG on $1Bn Boko Haram fund

…Says no different between PDP, APC in corruption matter
One of the newly registered political parties, National Rescue Movement (NRM) has expressed its support for the approval of $1Bn by the governors for the federal government to fight insurgency in the North-east of the country.

The said money is to be drawn from the Excess Crude Account.

Addressing a maiden press conference Monday in Abuja, NRM National Chairman, Sen. Saidu Dansandu, also said in term of corruption and management of nation’s resources, ‘there is no difference between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition People Democratic Party (PDP).

“For us at NRM, we see no difference between PDP and APC in terms of corruption allegation, in terms of implementation of budget, in terms of prudent management of the nation’s resources for the common good of the Nigerian people we have not seen any difference between the APC and the PDP.

“The $1bn that has been approved by the council of state, these governors are Chief Executive of their respective state and the Boko Haram is a security challenge that in fact affect the entire nation. Yes the battle with Boko Haram has been fought in the North-east but its economic and social consequences are all over the country.

“So for me, so long as the money will be prudently used for the purpose it allocated for, then there is no problem, but my worry is that, the federal government and the council of state should put in place a special mechanism for monitoring how that big amount will be used.”

Speaking on why the party was formed, Dansandu said that Nigeria’s political experience since 1999 till date has shown that politicians have failed, which he described as a ‘shame.’

According to him, a group of patriotic Nigerians decided to give Nigerians a party with ideologies.

The said believe that if good governance is to be entrenched in Nigeria, traditional rulers, religious leaders, professionals and trade union groups should be involved.

“Our government shall be anchored on justice, and fair play, against government of injustice, nepotism and discrimination. Our government shall be run on team work and productivity, to achieve the desired prosperity.”
